ERAU Global Security and Intelligence
Studies
The Bachelor of Science in Global Security
and Intelligence Studies is designed to train future security
and intelligence professionals in analytical methodologies and skills.
This interdisciplinary program spans politics, economics, philosophy,
history, and communication as well as specialized courses in security
and intelligence. Coursework includes in-depth study of issues such
as terrorism, asymmetrical warfare, transportation security (with
an emphasis on aviation and aerospace), threats to corporate personnel
and facilities, threats to computer and telecommunications infrastructure,
trafficking networks in illicit services and substances, proscribed
weapons technologies such as weapons of mass destruction, international
crime, population migrations, natural disasters, pandemics, and
homeland security.
The Global Security and Intelligence Studies major will prepare
graduates for rewarding careers with:
- Federal security and intelligence agencies (such as the FBI
and CIA)
- All branches of the U.S. military
- Security and intelligence department in business and industry
– especially aviation, aerospace, and other transportation
entities and corporations
- State and local law enforcement agencies
- As students in graduate schools specializing in international
security studies or law
Special opportunities in the Global
Security and Intelligence Studies program provide enriched experiences
that go beyond the classroom. They include the chance to study abroad
or participate in an internship. Recent internships include the
Central Intelligence
Agency (CIA), NASA, the U.S. Border Patrol, the Diplomatic Security
Service, and the U.S. Embassy in Athens.
An annual trip to Washington, D.C. allows upper class students
to visit various facilities such as the FBI and the Pentagon. Back
on campus, students can get involved with the Global Intelligence
Monitoring Center, which provides consulting services to airports,
corporations, and other entities. The Global
Intelligence Monitoring Center also publishes a weekly analytical
intelligence newsletter. The campus Foreign Language Institute offers
the study of Arabic or Chinese in a summer immersion format.
Highly qualified faculty in the Global Security and Intelligence
Studies major bring to the university a background with the Office
of Special Investigations, a former CIA intelligence analyst, and
U.S. government intelligence operation planner.
