Wicked~ The Greatest Musical Alive<3

July 24th, 2010

Ever since my freshman year in High School, I have always wanted to see Wicked live. It was my dream because my choir sang a few of the songs at a performance, so we got a little taste of the musical. I have never been a huge person to want to see bands and such live, I am satisfied watching them on T.V. or video, but this is the one musical I had dreamed of seeing live. Well, my dreams came true a couple weeks ago. Annette took us all to see Wicked live in Dallas, Texas. She knew her mother would enjoy it, so she wanted to take us all to see it. Many think it is not a great idea to wait to buy musical tickets at the box office right before the show and for most cases I agree, but Annette was able to get two free ORCHESTRA seats since two people could not make it to the musical and the seats were not occupied. She also got the other two balcony seats for discount! About half the cost! We were very blessed that day, and just seeing the musical already made all our days.

Wicked, just in case you want to know, is about the “wicked witch of the west”. It is her side of Wizard of  Oz  story. It gives the audience a new perspective of how one becomes evil in an other’s eye, even though they are good at heart. I recommend seeing this musical, if not live, at least find it on YouTube.

This is the cover of the CD they sell after the musical. I believe some of the books use this as the cover as well. I am reading Wicked right now, it's really good.

This is Glinda "the Good Witch" and Elphaba the "Wicked Witch" together at the Emerald City. The lighting and costumes were amazing!

This is the scene of my favorite song in the musical called "Defying Gravity". We sang it at my high school, but WOW it gave me chills when Elphaba sang it!

Bad Radio

I started off this summer with a checklist of things to accomplish by the end of it when I would return to ERAU. This list was rather long and it was pretty much the same as this:

I have finished much of this list and there is more to it, but as of the last two weeks, I have been able to complete number 7 because I wasn’t sure of  how do actually do it! My friends Brandon and Michael and I have started a radio show. That’s right, a radio show. We already have recorded three episodes and plan to make our fourth. It isn’t just any old radio show, we named it “Bad Radio” and had some kinks in the system at first but we fixed it. At first it was just the three of us huddled around Brandon’s computer and now we use his high-tech microphone, which picks up every sound that we make. Our first episode was just the three of us talking, and that is basically what the whole show is, but our conversations are hilarious and are often random, usually involving Michael bring up random segways that lead us into another subject. We start off the show by introducing ourselves and usually an anecdote by me, but now we are using funny lists, such as the top Least Attractive things that women do and guys notice, and then Top Best Ways to Kick the Bucket. We maintain our stance that if anybody is offended by our show or anything similar to that, than they should just go make their own radio show. That is my quote from the show, and I think that is applies to anyone who listens. Just for the record, I am going to list what I put down. The Top Most Unattractive Things that Women do and Guys Notice: 5) When women dye their hair so many colors that I cannot tell what it originally was. 4) When girls put their hand on their hip and snap their heads in a sassy rude gesture. 3) When girls take flashy pictures of themselves with their phones in their bathrooms and then post them on facebook. 2) When girls are unmotivated and lack the effort to keep themselves in shape. And the grand finale, 1) When girls say “I have to pee” to a guy and expect guys and others to take it and comment on it.

There is a taste of one of the topics we talk about, and so far we have three episodes that can be checked out at this website: http://badradio.tumblr.com/   It is EXTREMELY funny although I dont like the sound of my own voice over the radio, so please take a few minutes to listen. We are recording our fourth episode tomorrow with our first guest, our friend Stella Shin who came with me and Brian to the Angels and Airwaves concert. So far we have gained a surprisingly positive following and reviews so we hope that more people continue to listen.  I consider Bad Radio to be one of the greatest successes of my summer experiences already.

Good Times, Old Times, Fun Times!

July 14th, 2010

Birthdays, sports, and good times galore!  This past couple of weeks have been chock full of great events that will no doubt be great memories.  Lexie’s birthday was July 3, and so for a celebration, my whole family within a fifty mile radius came to Pizza Factory.  My family and I didn’t go to the Fourth of July Parade that day, but it was so fun to see some of my cousins and my grandparents all together having a good time.  Whenever we all get together, something crazy happens- and this time was no exception.  We couldn’t for the life of us get the matches to light Lexie’s cake!  We tried everything: the table, shoes, zippers, you name it.  This video shows the whole dilemma.  (Video courtesy of the Admissions Office!  PS… love the Flip camera!)  And sorry the font is funky… I don’t know what happened or how to fix it!!

This past week, Lexie’s team played in the District tournament for softball.  It was a blast helping my dad coach and to get to hang out with all my girls again.  They played great, but unfortunately lost in the finals to Taylor, a town about forty five minutes away.  The tournament was in Winslow though, and even though I’d been there a million times for all sorts of sports games and such, I got to explore the culture and history a little more this time.  My family and I explored the famous La Posada Hotel.  It was built in the 1930′s, and it’s gorgeous!  There’s an art gallery in one of the main sections, a restaurant, a gift shop full of brightly colored things from all over the world, AND a hotel part where famous people (Jimmy Stewart, for one) stayed in.  I loved it.  It was so rich in culture, and just dripping with history.

That’s the restaurant, called The Turqoise Room.  Below is the fabulous gift shop.  Amazing, right?

So that was my adventure in Winslow.  Who knew that Arizona’s oldest towns could be so cool?  I’ll have to snoop around Prescott a little more to see if I can find somewhere cool like the La Posada!

Speaking of Prescott, I’m going down there with my little sis this weekend to go to the Embry-Riddle Take Flight Volleyball Camp.  Lexie will be participating, and I’ll be helping to coach the girls who come.   And after that, LAKE POWELL!! WOOOO HOOOO!  Wish us luck!!
