ERAU Army ROTC

ROTC stands for Reserve Officer's Training Corps. ROTC is a course one may take, freshman through senior year, which teaches leadership and may lead to a commission in the U.S. Army. Leadership is a quality few people are born with, yet so many have exhibited throughout history. No one has better personified the true art of leadership than the United States Army Officer. In fact, many of our most prominent leaders, people who have helped shape the course of world history, started out as Army officers. Army officers have proven that they are among America's bravest, brightest, and best. But how does the making of an Army officer begin? Quite simply, with someone who has the desire to be a leader, to be the one responsible. Today, as in the past, there are a lot of bright, young, ambitious students with this desire.
Army ROTC at ERAU can be an exciting, fun, and challenging. In addition to the financial benefits that are received with scholarships, the leadership training will help in finding future jobs.

FAQ

HOW DO I GET A SCHOLARSHIP?
You can qualify for a four- or three- year scholarship right out of high school. Log on to www.goarmy.com/rotc or call 1-800-USA-ROTC to have an application mailed to you. We also have from 3 to 1.5-year scholarships available as part of our Campus-Based Scholarship Program that you may be eligible to compete for when you enroll in one of our classes. Freshmen and sophomores can apply for these scholarships from any degree program. Three year scholarships are worth up to 90K in benefits!

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF GETTING A SCHOLARSHIP?

  • FULL TUITION AND FEES
As an extra incentive, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University provides an additional $7,500/year assurance to students who have already earned a scholarship prior to beginning their first semester.
  • Tax-free subsistence allowance paid at the rate of up to $500 per month, up to ten months of the school year; freshman start at $300 a month.
  • Books paid at the rate of $1,200 per year

DO I HAVE TO EARN A SPECIFIC DEGREE IN ORDER TO BE AN ARMY OFFICER? You can choose any major at Embry-Riddle and be an Army officer, because getting the branch you want is not dependent on your degree. The number one deciding factor is your GPA. Other considerations are: qualified physical exam, physical fitness, and cadet evaluations from your instructors.

WHAT IS THE OBLIGATION TO JOIN ROTC?
There is no obligation to join the Army when you take our classes as a freshman or sophomore unless you are on scholarship. If you decide to contract with us and receive a commission, you incur a 4-Year Active Duty commitment. The exception to this is if you receive your commission through the U.S. Army Reserve or National Guard; there is no active duty commitment, only an 8 year reserve commitment.

WHAT DOES ARMY ROTC DO FOR ME?
AROTC enhances a student’s education by providing unique leadership and management training, along with practical experience. ROTC students have a valuable opportunity to earn a college degree and to begin a career as a commissioned officer and leader.

ARMY ROTC produces leaders. It offers a tremendous combination of fun, fellowship, excitement, and learning which can only be achieved by being a part of it. By taking our classes, you may also be eligible to attend one of our summer training programs such as the U.S. Army Airborne School (parachute training), Air Assualt Training, or internships with active duty units.

HOW DO I BEGIN TO LEAD?
Upon enrolling in the fall semester at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, sign up for MSL 101 (First Year Military Science) and the corresponding Leadership Laboratory MSL 101L. This freshman-level course introduces students to leadership models and studies of leadership styles and group dynamics. It also introduces cadets to basic military skills such as land navigation with map and compass, rifle marksmanship, and first aid techniques. This class is the best class on campus, and again, there is no obligation to the Army.
