ERAU Aerospace Studies
Aerospace Studies is a unique interdisciplinary
degree that lets individuals chart their own course to success,
combining a minor in an aviation/aerospace
related field with two other areas of study. The program was developed
specifically as a response to calls by American corporate leaders
for graduates who understand and connect technological expertise
with broader knowledge of communications, business, psychology,
and many other fields. The degree serves as excellent preparation
for careers or for graduate and professional programs such as law,
safety, computer science, and space studies.
The Aerospace Studies major includes general education, core courses,
elective minors and a capstone experience (either a senior thesis
or a co-op in industry). For the core requirements, students connect
three minor areas of study in a meaningful way by choosing from
courses in the humanities, geography, international studies, philosophy
and ethics, and psychology. Then, students create a specialized
program by choosing three minors; the only requirement is that at
least one minor must be in an area related to aviation or aerospace.
By combining three minors, students design their own degree program.
- Combinations such as security or air traffic control with psychology
and safety, or space studies with computer science and psychology
are useful to the aerospace industry.
- Minors in the business areas give students practical knowledge
that combines well with the more technical areas.
- A minor in Asian Studies or Security will add an international
component to the degree.
Aerospace Studies
majors can expand their education through an internship or co-op.
some recent examples include positions in Flight
Safety with American Airlines, Launch Operations with Boeing
Company, as a Safety
Intern with the NTSB, or as an Aviation
Production Assistant with Angel City Air.
